Missed Labs

Since this is a lab course, attendance is mandatory as well as the zoo/aquarium trip. Unless you have discussed an absence with the instructor ahead of time, you will have 10 points less since you will not be taking the weekly quiz. More than one missed lab may result in additional loss of points.

If you must miss a lab, you are required to attend another lab section when the same lab material is set up. Since this lab will be offered on the Monday following the other 103 labs, you will have to plan ahead. You will also have to arrange a make up quiz with the instructor. When you show up at another lab you are to identify yourself to the lab instructor and ask permission to sit in. Have that instructor sign and date your lab exercise and bring it to me at the next lab meeting.

Health & Safety Rules

Report all accidents to the instructor immediately

1. No Smoking in Lab
2. No Eating or Drinking in Lab
3. No Horseplay in Lab
4. Wear Appropriate Clothing (nothing loose, draping or with long tassels; no bare feet, and sandals are not recommended; long hair should be tied back.) Be certain you know the location of the fire extinguisher and eye wash.

TEXT (recommended):
You may use either of the following textbooks:

BIOLOGY: Essential Biology with Physiology, by Campbell, Reece and Simon. text. The Biology 102 lectures use this textbook.

BIOLOGY: Concepts and Applications, 5th edition, by Cecie Starr.

LIBERAL STUDIES MAJORS:
If you plan to teach, we encourage you to sign up for the Bio 103 laboratory section 04 on Wednesday evening. This lab is designed specifically for you and taught by an experienced teacher.

TUTORING:
It is always a good idea to take advantage of the instructor's office hours to clarify the material. The Center for Learning and Academic Support Services (C.L.A.S.S.) (http://www.csudh.edu/class) provides tutoring in a number of subjects including biology and offers computer use facilities as well. CLASS is located in SCC 11-311, CLASS II 11-325 and CLASS Annex LCH A-222. It also provides a comfortable learning and studying environment where students can ask questions and receive academic support.

Academic Integrity

It is essential that you read those pages in the University Catalog explaining, Academic Integrity: Its Place in the University Community.
It explains academic integrity and the nature of academic dishonesty. It also describes the role of the faculty and student in promoting academic integrity.
In addition it explains the University policies and procedures for dealing with questions of academic dishonesty.
